Barrio Writers invites youth
between 13-18 years old to participate in a 1-week long college-level
creative writing program founded by Sarah Rafael Garcia and led by
Program Director Leticia Urieta, along with local community
educators/artists which will provide youth with an opportunity to learn
different forms of writing (poetry, spoken word, hip-hop, short stories,
essay) and free cultural arts connections to the community. Following
the workshop, participants may participate in a live reading at the
library on Saturday, July 13 from 12-3 pm. Family and friends are
invited. Lunch will be provided. Please email Leticia at
barriowritersaustin@gmail.com for questions or more information.
At
the workshop, teens will read various works, watch videos online, and
share their own writings, which may include mature themes and content.
Teens may step out of the room at any point if they are not comfortable
with any content or find it triggering.
Register online to participate. Space is limited. Participants are
expected to attend all five days of the workshop and the live reading on
7/13 in order to fully engage in the community workshop experience and
for the opportunity to publish their work in the Barrio Writers
Anthology. If you need to cancel your registration, please call the
library at 512-990-6375 as soon as possible to allow another participant
to take your place. For registration questions, please email
amandac@pflugervilletx.gov.
The Barrio Writers Summer Workshop is sponsored by the Friends of the Pflugerville Library.
